Confidential Information from Las Vegas School District Released by Hackers

After Clark County School District (CCSD) located in Las Vegas, Nevada refused to pay a ransom to unlock servers in the district, confidential student and staff information was released to the public. CCSD is not the first school district to experience a ransomware attack this year as other distracts have faced attacks in light of more learning occurring virtually. The attack first occurred on August 27th and access to certain confidential files was blocked. As of now there haven’t been reports of the confidential information, such as social security numbers, being misused but law enforcement is now conducting an investigation to trace the origins of the attack.
While officials have traced IP addresses to a few countries, they cannot yet confirm the location of the attackers. The school is currently working to restore their servers and properly secure all of their information.
