Hospital Ransomware Attacks Hit Florida and Texas

Late last year hospital chains in Florida and Texas were targeted during ransomware attacks tied to phishing emails. When staff opened these emails, malicious hacker tools like BloodHound and Mimikatz accessed the hospitals’ networks to access sensitive data. The private data was posted to the hacker’s website and included employee background checks and letters to insurers. Experts have concluded that this ransomware attack is tied back to the Conti ransomware gang.
Leon Medical Centers, the hospital affected in Florida, immediately pulled their systems offline when they identified the attack. They are now working with cybersecurity experts to begin an investigation and secure their networks. The hospital system in Texas has not released a statement yet. Learn more here.
