Gary Brantley, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the city of Atlanta, has been a key leader in helping the city’s IT department build resilience after a cyberattack in 2018. His plan called for going back to the basics in order to prepare for future occasions, like the Super Bowl and COVID-19 pandemic, where the city may be more vulnerable. By using four focused pillars of core strengthening, increased alignment, innovation, and application modernization Brantley has built up Atlanta’s IT department to be prepared for anything.
In February 2019 during the Super Bowl and more recently in March 2020 at the start of the pandemic, the IT department employed new plan along with other preparation that has ensured Atlanta’s cybersecurity. Increased preparations included collaboration with other security experts, focusing on pressing needs, constant communication, and agreement among leadership.
