The pandemic has led to a major shift towards e-commerce and online shopping this year as restrictions and safety concerns around brick and mortar stores have grown. With the busiest time of year for retail quickly approaching, it is expected that many more shoppers will be buying online this year. A recent survey revealed that 78% of consumers will avoid shopping at businesses who have previously experienced a data breach like Macy’s and J. Crew. As most shoppers surf the web for the best deals this year, they will take into consideration retailers that value their security and take extra measures to avoid data breaches. In the same survey, it was found that over half of consumers are concerned about retailer data breaches being a major threat to their identity and they would feel more secure shopping from retailers with identity protection plans in place.
