Earlier this month, Cloudstar announced that they were the victim of a highly damaging ransomware attack. Cloudstar provides IT solutions for companies in the real estate, legal, insurance, finance, and oil & gas industries. The attack shut down all of their systems except for their Office 365 mail service and email encryption, which they confirmed in a statement on their website. The IT company serves thousands of professionals across the country leading to speculation of how many businesses this attack has affected. Remediation efforts have already begun with a third-party investigator, Tetra Defense, and authorities have also been notified. Negotiations with the threat actor have also taken place since Cloudstar first realized that their systems were down. While there is currently no definitive timeline for when all of Cloudstar’s services will be recovered, they are reaching out to all of their customers to provide support during this challenging time. There is also an ongoing investigation of the clients involved in the attack and what data was accessed and compromised by the threat actor.
