A new fraud campaign was identified this month where scammers are using fraudulent browser extensions to display fake ads on search engines. When people click on these fake ad links, the scammers make money due to increased site traffic. Earlier this month, it was believed that this extension fraud, which was found on browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome, affected over 30,000 devices a day. Experts believe that the campaign was launched to make money but other motives such as surveillance and data can’t be ruled out yet. Earlier this year, a malware called Adrozek was identified on Google Chrome browsers that was thought to tamper with security setting and expose private user information. Microsoft advises reinstalling your browser if you discover malware like this.
