Microsoft’s Exchange email software was recently hit by a ransomware attack that has affected tens of thousands of customers. The victims of the attack range from government offices to schools and business. Experts believe that a group of Chinese hackers, Hafnium, carried out the attack to exploit weaknesses in Microsoft’s system by hacking into email accounts, installing unauthorized software, and reading messages. Microsoft is now working with government organizations and security companies to resolve their security issues. While this is the second major cyberattack in the U.S within the past year, experts believe that this incident isn’t related to the SolarWinds attack. The White House has warned that this recent security breach is a major concern as it has already had a widespread impact and affected a large number of victims. As Microsoft works to secure their systems it’s reported that their Office 365 software was unaffected during the attack.
