Locking Down IoT Systems Could Prevent Breaches

Internet of Things (IoT) devices have taken over most industries in the past 20 years. While they have made business operations easier, they have been targeted in the past few years by hackers who use these devices to gain access to company networks. Recently, hackers took control of a system in a water treatment plant in Florida, which led to dangerously high chemical levels in the water. While plant workers were able to quickly control the situation, it’s a wakeup call for all companies to make sure that their IoT devices are secured.
In order for companies to ensure that their IoT devices are secure and won’t be entry points for hackers to access networks, experts suggest these security precautions. If businesses have multiple IoT devices security needs to be a priority and IT experts can be brought in to help. Further, all devices need to be locked down and security teams should weigh the pros and cons of connecting these devices to their networks. Lastly, businesses with IoT devices need to plan on being hacked and have a highly responsive security system that will notice suspicious activity immediately.
