Organizations Are Facing a Cybersecurity Skills Shortage

According to a recent whitepaper by Trustwave, a majority of cybersecurity professionals believe that there is a shortage of cybersecurity skills in their organizations. With many industries seeing an increase in cyberthreats this year, it is even more important that organizations are highly skilled in detecting and mitigating these attacks. There are various reasons for why cybersecurity skills have seen a shortage recently. For example, younger professionals state that they would rather use their skills for their own personal gain than for protecting companies against cybercrime. In addition, careers in cybersecurity can be extremely stressful and recruiters are extremely competitive when trying to fill new cybersecurity role.
Trustwave suggests three approaches to improve the shortage of cybersecurity skills within a company. Using an automation process and machine learning can help a company successfully detect and respond to threats especially if they have a staffing shortage. In addition, establishing ongoing training programs for staff will equip them with the knowledge they need to succeed and allow them to build a stronger set of skills. Finally, implementing a managed security service can allow the company to fill any security gaps.
